OT 1600 (850 based) featured heavily revised suspension, larger wheelarches with extensions to house the bigger wheels, comprehensive instrumentation (revcounter, speedometer, water and oil temperature, oil pressure and fuel level) and different seats. Behind the revised front grille sat two radiators, one each for the water and oil. Disc brakes were fitted all round. The engine was a 1592cc (86x68.5mm) dohc twin-spark with two twin carburettors and 154bhp @ 7,600rpm. A four or six speed transmission could be fitted, complete with limited slip differential.
1965 saw the birth of yet more 982cc engined cars. The 62bhp unit was fitted to both the 850 Spider and the new 850 Coupé, creating in both cases an OT1000. A Coupé with 74bhp (mainly thanks to the fitment of two twin carburettors), known as the OTS1000 was also offered. At the same time a Bertone Racer (ie 850 Spider with a permanent hardtop) was fitted with a more highly tuned 'radial' engine (hence the designation OTR1000), still 982cc but with 74bhp. For motorsport the OTSS1000 was built which managed to extract 90bhp from the OTS engine.

A rich sales program Carlo Abarth offers to its customers is composed on one hand, from the fabulously fast Fiats 500, 600 and 850, on the other hand, from a number of sports coupes from 700 to 2000 cc. Abarth builts around 2,600 pieces of such modified Fiats per year, and of course in far greater numbers its accesories. In the cars departnent in the foreground of interest are currently the derivatives of the Fiat 850, with the attention in particular the OT 1600. It is a small sedan with the 1.6-liter twin-shaft engine, which, designed by Abarth a few years ago, was originally intended for today's 2000 GT. The 154 horsepower that comes out help to a top speed of about 215 km / h. The brakes have been taken from the 2000 GT, as well as the optically much too large alloy wheels with racing tires. Such a vehicle costs about 20,000 DM and certainly is not suitable for normal road traffic.

Abarth has his 695 SS based on this latest 500 body, and there is the usual assortment of competition cars tightly bunched on a small stand.
