Borgward 1968

230 GL

Mexico

After the bankruptcy of the Borgward Corporation in 1961, a Mexican company bought the entire facility of the factory in Bremen-Sebaldsbrück for DM 14 million and shipped it to Mexico with the intention of building the Borgward Isabella and the 2.3-Liter type P 100. The difficulties, however, were greater than had been expected and production started at the end of 1967. About five of the 230 GL is currently manufactured per day, far too little to make a profit. The car costs about 17,000 DM. The Borgward is offered in three versions: the 230 GL corresponds exactly to the original original model, the simplified 230 and finally the 230 GL Limousina with extended wheelbase and thus the rear seat space greater by 25 cm.
