The exciting new American Ford 'sub-Compact' which has been designed to combat US imports of European small cars. Significantly, the new Ford has a wheelbase half-an-inch shorter than the VW and the body is a two-door fastback. There is also a good-looking station wagon, and each is powered by a British and German-made two-litre four-cylinder engine with belt-driven overhead camshaft. It is a cast iron engine but modern 'thin-casting' methods result in a lightweight unit. The engine with a Weber twin-choke carburettor develops 95 (SAE) b.h.p.
