Racing enthusiasts Bob, Douglas, Ivor and Trevor Walklett run an agricultural and construction engineering business, Walklett Bros, in Woodbridge, Suffolk. In the early 1950s Ivor built a modified and rebodied Wolseley Hornet sports car which would retrospectively be named the Ginetta G1.
The G1 prompted a low-cost production version of the Ginetta and early in 1958 the Walkletts formed Ginetta Cars Ltd. The G2 was launched in the same year, the alloy bodied two-seater being sold in kit form and having a multi-tubular chassis and Ford running gear.
