The Metropolitan
was originally designed by Nash in the USA in 1950 and from 1954 is
built in Britain by Austin in conjunction with Fisher &
Ludlow. Never badged as an Austin, it went into production in 1954
as convertible or fixed head, powered by the 42 bhp 1200cc A40
engine, giving a top speed of 75 mph. Three speed box with column
shift and A30 based front suspension. Early cars had no opening
boot access.
