EVEN THE most mundane Alfa Romeo saloon retains a distinctly sporting character, and all Alfa Romeo cars - and the Romeo van - are powered by aluminium twin overhead camshaft engines. In closed form, with the original Bertone coupe body, the Giulietta sets a standard which many others have found hard to emulate, while the willing and tuneable 1,290 c.c. engine and excellent handling have made it the mainstay of Italian small capacity sports car racing. After quite a wait the 1,570 c.c. Giulia finally came along last year. It has an engine based on the Giulietta unit which, in its most sporting form, as fitted to the Giulia Sprint Speciale develops 112 b.h.p. A prototype derivative, the Giulia GTZ, has a space frame and the first independent rear suspension to came from the Via Triano for some time; it is the only small Alfa with disc brakes, those at the rear being mounted inboard. The complete car weighs only 12.6cwt, giving a power-to-weight ratio of 200 b.h.p. per ton unladen. It is matched by the 2600 SZ coupe, which has finally reached production. Having 160 b.h.p. to play with, this car should also be a fine performer. The 1,290 c.c. Giulietta is now made only as a four-door saloon. Right-hand drive versions are available and it is planned to expand the British market.
Autocar, April 1963
Koła wykonano z lekkiego stopu i zapoatrzono w niskoprofilowe opony. Nawiązanie do sportowych tradycji marki stanowią zielone, czterolistne koniczynki Quadrifoglio, umieszczone na przednich błotnikach. Nadwozie lakierowane jest wyłącznie w kolorze Bianco Spino. Premiera prasowa odbyła sie 24 kwietnia na torze Monza. Samochód osiąga prędkość 189 km/h. Do końca roku zbudowano 178 egzemplarzy TI Super.
Koniec produkcji podstawowej wersji Giulietty. W ofercie pozostał tylko sedan TI.
Launched at the Geneva Motor Show, the Giulia TI Super has two Weber carburetors and a higher compression ratio giving 112 b.h.p. The weight is reduced to 910 kg. A new interior is designed by Zagato. Widely criticised 'ribbon' speedometer is replaced by round Veglia clocks. Inner headlights are removed and replaced by stylish air intakes. The light alloy wheels have low profile tyres. The car can reach top speed of 189 km/h (118 mph). The green, four-leaf clovers on the front fenders are reminisent of Alfa Romeo motor sport glory of the 1930's. The body is painted in only one colour Bianco Spino. The press release took place 24 April at the Monza race track. By the end of the year 178 were sold.
In August all Giulia models gained two separate seats instead of a single front bench. Drum brakes were replaced by the Dunlop servo disc system.
Since the Gilulia G.T. Sprint 2+2 Coupé for the 1.6-litre was introduced, there has been no Alfa Romeo news. A proud exhibit on the brick-paved Alfa stand is the Giulia TI Super with which Masoero and Maurin had such success in the recent Tour de France, including winning the 1-2 litre G.T. class.

Giulia TI Super tipo 105.16 is a special racing model made for homologation. Quadrifoglio Verde (green four-leaf clover) stickers on the front wings are a distinguishing feature. The 1,570 cc engine is fitted with two double-choke horizontal Weber 45DCOE carburettors for 112 bhp at 6500 rpm. The body is lightened and a floor gearchange is fitted as standard, as are alloy wheels of very similar appearance to the standard steel ones of the TI. The TI's instrument cluster with its strip speedometer is replaced with a three-instrument binnacle comprising speedometer, tachometer and a multi-gauge instrument (fuel, water temperature, oil temperature and pressure) - these instruments are similar to those fitted to the contemporary Giulia Sprint and Sprint Speciale coupes and Spider convertibles. The steering wheel is a three-spoke item with centre hornpush, also similar to that of the more sporting models. Braking is by discs all around.
