Alfasud ti B4 cyl., 1186 cm³ 68 cv Berlina 2-dr wb: 2455 mm - November

These advanced small cars manufactured in Alfa-Romeo's ultra modern plant near Naples were exhibited at last year's London Show, but were not available to the British buying public. Now right-hand drive versions of the front-drive saloons with 'flat-four' engines are available, and Alfa enthusiasts will no doubt form a queue for them. Although of only 1.2-litres, the shapely saloon can exceed 90 m.p.h., and will cruise at 75 m.p.h. with a low noise level for such a modest capacity. Handling is in the Alfa tradition, and fuel consumption is relatively low.

London show review

In November the two-door Alfasud ti (Turismo Internazionale) joined the range. Along with a 5-speed gearbox, it features a more powerful version of the 1.2 engine, brought to 68 bhp by adopting a Weber twin-choke carburator. The small saloon can reach 160 km/h (99 mph). Quad round iodine headlamps, special wheels, a front body-colour spoiler beneath the bumper and rear black one around the tail distinguishes the "ti", while inside there are a three-spoke steering wheel, auxiliary gauges, leatherette/cloth seats, and carpets in place of rubber mats.

With an engine of less than 1.8 litres this handsome four-door saloon with five gears can cruise all-day at 100 m.p.h. with an unusually low noise level. The slight wedge shape promotes aerodynamic down-pressure at high speed, and consequent stability. Like the pre- and postwar Alfa Grand Prix car after which it is named, the Alfetta has its gearbox mounted on the de Dion rear axle, to assist with a balanced weight distribution. Interior trim is beautifully executed, and the baggage compartment is large. Disc brakes all-round.

1974 saw the introduction of the Spider-Targa. Based upon the Spider, it features a Porsche style solid rear window and lift out roof panels, all made out of black GRP type material. Less than 2,000 models of such type were ever made.
The 1300 was modified to include two small seats behind the front seats, becoming a "two plus two" four seater.
