Alpine 1954

The first prototype at the Rouen rally in 1953.

Renault dealer and talented rally driver Jean Rédélé grew up among cars and engines. He participated in several experiments to built a sports car based on the Renault 4 CV. His first prototype had bodywork designed by Michelotti and built by Allemano. The second car, the Marquis was first shown in January at the New York Motor Show. It was planned to be built by American Zark Reed at PlastiCar Inc. but the project failed. Thus Jean Rédélé began work on his own car which will be called Alpine after his great success in Critérium des Alpes this year.

The Marquis

Similar to the Marquis prototype with panoramic windscreen driven by Galtier.
