Alpine coach Normale or Speciale.
Although the installation of larger engines requires some modifications, externally the A-106 and A-108 are identical and, very similar to previous year models. The cabriolet has lost the chrome bonnet strip and front indicators. An optional hardtop becomes available.
The new versions
with 845 cc Dauphine engines are natural developments but the 904 cc unit is a completely new breed. Apart from enlarged capacity it has larger valves with double springs, a special igniter, petrol pump and the fan. The camshaft and cylinder head, rounded pistons, intake-exhaust manifolds, reinforced rods are made of forged light alloy. Forged steel crankshaft has a diameter of 38 mm instead of 35 mm for the normal crankshaft of the 1063. Ribbed oil casing with a capacity of 4 litres are specially designed for this Alpine. The modified 904 develops 50 hp at 5,500 rpm with a compression ratio increased to 8.8:1, using a Solex carburettor. On special order it is also available in a "Competition" version which has 59 hp at 6,000 rpm with a compression ratio of 9.2 and a dual Weber carburettor. With this engine the small coach Alpine cheerfully exceeds 150 km/h and can even reach 160 km/h with a longer gear ratio. The braking system is similar to the Dauphine but the drums are larger and perforated. Standard wheels without hubcaps also helps to improve cooling.
Novelties for 1960 are: a bigger engine of 998 cc derived from the Dauphine Gordini, a coupé Sport body based on the convertible and a new chassis on all models.
