1600 GT i 3000 V8 stanowią dziedzictwo po przejętej w ubiegłym roku firmie
Glas. Z ceną 16.000 marek 1600 GT nie znajdował wielu nabywców (1600 cabrio kosztuje 12.000 marek). Produkcję zakończono w sierpniu. Powstało 1259 egzemplarzy (dwa kabriolety).
Skrót TI oznacza zastosowanie dwóch gaźników. Kabriolet 1600-2 produkowany jest w firmie Baur a Coupé 2000 C i CS u Karmanna.
Nowy sedan i Coupé zostały zaprezentowane we wrześniu. 2500 / 2800 prod. od września, 2800 CS od grudnia.

The two-door BMW 1600 came on the market two years ago, perfectly meeting the demand for a small, high performance family car, a compromise between a saloon and a coupé. As one could expect customers wants more and more power, so the 1600 TI was introduced, followed by the new 2002 and even 2002 ti delivering 120 bhp and capable of 185 km/h. To make it even better, all that costs only about 10.000 DM.

Five years ago, by the end of 1963, 5 years ago the big eight-cylinder BMW sedans had been discontinued. They had brought losses to the factory, and their body shape was not convincing. However these solid, fast and thus safe travel limousines enjoyed an excellent reputation. Now there is again a big BMW. Although the engine has 6 instead of 8 cylinders it is hoped to bring a business for BMW. Even more, so far it is the only alternative to the 2.5 and 2.8 litre models from Daimler -Benz. This new BMW meets the technical requirements, the quality and above all the brand reputation to compete successfully against the Mercedes cars. However, it will probably be some time before the new BMW will finally mature. It was presented to the press at the end of September 1968.
