Citroën 1960

France

Citroën, whose output of private cars for the first six months of this year was 121,529 (of which 80,782 were the 2CV), introduced a convertible for the DS and ID. It is a two-door four-seater, designed by the French coach-builder Chapron, and is almost identical with the one exhibited on the Chapron stand last year. The saloon does not rely upon its roof structure for body stiffness, and thus most of the panels and pressing of the saloon are used for the new convertible.
Among detail changes on all the DSs is a new centrifugal regulation for control of the automatic clutch, to give smoother changes and take-off. There is also a new device to alter the rake of the front seat backrests while driving, and a lifting handle has been added to the luggage boot lid. High-tension ignition (as used previously on the ID), with 12 volts supply, is now standardized on the DS.
On December 12 a significantly changed 2 CV model '61 has been revealed.
Do 2 CV można zamówić fabryczne radio "Radioën". Wszystkie wersje mają teraz koła 135x380 z oponami Michelin Pilote.
W listopadzie zaprzestano produkcji silników 375 cm³
a w grudniu zmieniono kształt wlotu powietrza i maski.
Przestarzałą, 6 woltową instalację elektryczną w DS/ID zmieniono na system 12 woltowy. Wycofano z oferty ID 19 Normale ze słabszym, 62 konnym silnikiem. Do współpracy w zakresie wytwarzania kabrioletów poproszono firmę
Henri Chapron
, która oferuje takie wersje DS od 1958 roku.
Firma wyprodukowała 316.218 samochodów.
Trautmann & Verrier zwyciężyli w Rajdzie Tulipanów w ID 19.

After twelve years, the 2 CV is trying to become more user-friendly. For this year it offers more colours and even an optional radio "Radioën".
The production of the 2 CV 4 x 4 began at a very low rate; only twenty copies left the Panhard factories on Avenue d'Ivry where they are assembled next to the 2 CV AZU vans.
In December the 2 CV gained a new bonnet and modified side vents. A Panama yellow is added to the grey, blue and green colour range. The AZ version is discontinued.

For 1960 the DS 19 underwent its first changes. The rear wings has the same shape as on the ID and the rear bumper blends in better with lines of the car. The chrome flashers extending the rear lights disappeared. Additional vents on the front wings provide better cooling for the engine.
The dual ignition system is replaced with a conventional one, the same as on the ID, but dual carburettor provides the same power output as before. The ID keeps its single carb.
In August the DS evolved by inheriting a new automatic, centrifugal clutch, which allowed to eliminate the "low pressure" pump from the hydraulic system. Since the fall it also benefits from a 12-volt electrical system.
The ID 19 did not changed externally, but adopted the 12V electrical system seen last year on the estate models. A very useful handle is added on the boot lid. The dash has different trim and the indicator switch is now located under the steering wheel.

DS 19

DS 19 Prestige is prepared by Chapron.

ID 19

Citroën ID 19 Familiale

This spacious model can carry eight people: three in the wide front seat, two in the rear seat behind which there is still space for some luggage and three in the folding seats located in the middle.

Citroën ID 19 Break

This body is distinguished by its folding seats located transversely at the extreme rear; these two booster seats can be retracted into the floor.

Citroën ID 19 Commerciale

This body is equipped with two large benches, each for three people; the rear one folds into the floor and gives a large loading area. The payload is 500 kg.

ID 19 Ambulance

In addition to the two front seats, the ambulance has a small nurse's seat and a stretcher at the back.
The star
of the Citroën stand at the 1960 Paris Motor Show was the DS/ID 19 Decapotable (convertible). It will be built by Henri Chapron, who is already offering his own bespoke two-door versions of the DS and is also responsible for the luxury interior of the DS 19 Prestige. This makes the new, beautifully designed open car a very exclusive offering, costing almost twice as much as the saloon.
