Although introduced two years ago the GAZ 3101 still didn't go into production, the factory continue the development of this model. The V6 engine is abandoned in favour of an innovative "prechambered - torch ignition" four-cylinder unit. This new engine is based on the old ZMZ-24D used in the GAZ 24, however the cylinder block and the head are made of aluminium. The big novelty is the adding of four extra inlet valves that charge the combustion prechambers. A special three barrel carburettor is used, where the draft from third barrel is directed into the four prechambers. The spark plugs are located inside these chambers, and the lean mixture in main cylinders is ignited by conical jets (the "torches") from these prechambers.
The new model has much simplified equipment, now lacking of
power steering and automatic gearbox.
