Jaguar XK SS (Super Sports) is a race-bred fully road-equipped version of the highly successful D-type. Its life span is shortened as a result of a fire that destroyed part of the Jaguar factory and with it twelve completed cars and all the jigs and tools. Of the small number produced, most were exported.

XK- "SS"
Potent New Super Sports Jaguar for Touring or Racing.
DEVELOPED from the successful D-type racing sports car, a new 2-seater Jaguar has made its appearance in response to demand from America for a car combining racing performance with equipment and weather protection of touring-car standard. The new Jaguar, to be called the XK"SS" should meet this demand in a most potent and satisfying manner, for it follows the mechanical specification of the 3I-litre Le Mans cars in all essentials, yet has a full-width curved windscreen, folding hood, luggage grid and bumpers. The cockpit is properly trimmed, has well-upholstered seats and a full "touring" range of instruments. Features retained from the D-type include the large tail fuel tank, drilled lightweight steering wheel, and Dunlop disc brakes and light-alloy disc wheels with knock-off hubs. The car is initially for export only, and first deliveries will be made in February to the U.S.A., where the price is $6.900. The XK"SS" is an addition to the Jaguar range and will not supplant any existing models.
