Zaprezentowany w październiku S-Type powstał na bazie Jaguara Mk II o wydłużonej tylnej części nadwozia, która przy zachowaniu tego samego rozstawu osi spowodowała wzrost długości całkowitej do 477 cm. Ten model łatwo poznać po zmienionym profilu tylnych błotników, podłużnych przednich kierunkowskazach oraz cieńszych zderzakach.
Jaguar 3.4 litre 'S' Saloon is based on the standard 3.4 Saloon but include a number of the Mk X's features, such as a flatter roof line, longer rear end and independent rear suspension. Other innovations include a heavier radiator grille surround, cowls over the head and fog lamps and shallow section bumpers. A 3.8-litre 'S' saloon is also available.
