The industrial group Toyo Kogyo builds passenger cars and delivery vans under the brand Mazda. The 'bread and butter' models are currently the tiny Carol 360 with a cute four-cylinder engine and the 800 and 1000 models. Two new additions that came out last year are the Mazda Luce 1500, an elegant sedan with body designed by Bertone and the Mazda Cosmo Sport. The prototype of the latter was presented for the first time in 1964 and has now become ready for series production. It is an elegant two-seater coupé with a twin-rotor Wankel engine. Toyo Kogyo is currently building about 30 units per month of this model. In late autumn of this year a Mazda sedan with the same Wankel engine is expected.
At the Tokyo Motor Show in October Toyo Kogyo displayed its rotary engine cars, the RX87 and RX85, as reference models.
