120 is available in seven body types. 8-in-line engine, developing 110 bhp. Wheelbase 120 in. It is Packard's entry into the low-price field. Prices starts at $980 (Business Coupé) and goes up to $1095. Just under 25,000 produced, many for export. Packard announced its low-price One Twenty car and saw annual production increase from 5,818 in 1934 to 52,256. "In designing a new Packard model," says their catalogue, "the first line the engineer draws is the 'life line' – the Packard radiator line." So the are with flattened ends that has been on top of the radiator for thirty years is still there, and a Packard remains a Packard. One more word, quoted in awe: "Just as only a few acres in the world produce the rare bouquet of old Burgundy, so too only a single county grows wool that is fine enough to upholster the new Packard Twelve. The fleeces' pick of 40 sheep from three choice flocks, grazed in the lush pasturage of a tiny Texas area, are required for a single car." |
