Nowością w programie fabryki Volkswagena jest samochód terenowy VW 181 z 1,5-litrowym silnikiem i zmodyfikowanym podwoziem Beetle. Chociaż tylko tylne koła są napędzane, pojazd ma niesamowite zdolności terenowe.
Brand new in the program is the VW 181 off-road car with 1.5 litre engine and modified Beetle chassis. Only the rear wheels are driven.

The Germany best selling car did not changed much for 1970. the 1300 and 1500 will be offered with 'L' trim which includes two reversing lights, rubber strip in bumpers and carpet flooring. The 1500 gained additional louvers in the engine lid. The convertible is only available with the 1500 engine and is has yet again different engine bonnet.

August 1969: The two sedans and the Variant with a different front and rear design. Front end extended by 120 mm, storage space in front 25% larger. Stronger bumpers ("railroad tracks"). The rear hood of the hatchback sedan is steeper.

For 1970 all three 'Typ 3' models recieved new bumpers. The rear end of the estate gas been extended, gaining 12 cm of luggage space. The back of the hatchback has also been modified, giving the car mode modern look.

Sales of the 411 did not meet the expectations and after just two years the 'big Volkswagen' udergo big some serious changes. For 1970 it gained a new front end with four halogen headlights, giving it much more pleasing appearance. The engine has now electronic fuel injection, raising the rated output to 80 hp.
