Stand No. 49. Exhibits : Bugatti " Royal " chassis (" Golden Bug ") fitted with saloon body by Kellner, of Paris, and Type 55 2 seater sports.
One new model is announced by Ettore Bugatti for 1933, the 3.3 litre, which has a single camshaft engine reminiscent of the old 3 litre car. This model is intended for fast touring work, combining flexibility with speed, and is suitable for closed coachwork. The remainder of the range consists of the 2.3, 4.9 and 5 litre cars which are already well known. A road test of the Type 55 2 seater, which appears on the stand at the Show, was published in our July issue. The racing edition of this car, the type 51, together with the racing edition of the 4.9 cars, are the machines raced officially by the firm this year, and also by Earl Howe.
The" Royal" chassis, more commonly known as the "Golden" Bugatti, is only made to special order, and does not therefore appear on the firm's list. It has a 10 litre 8 cylinder engine, rated at 77.4 h.p. and is capable of 90 m.p.h. in second gear. The price is £6,500.
Prices of the other models are not yet available.

Wimille returns to Bugatti.
In 1931 Jean Pierre Wimille made a brilliant debut with a Bugatti. In the past season, however, he has piloted a 2.3 litre two-seater Alfa Romeo in many events. Now, 1933, the young Frenchman is returning to the Bugatti fold, and has come to an agreement with the veteran driver Friedrich to race one of the Molsheim products next year. Friedrich is the Bugatti agent in Nice, and specialises in the maintenance of Bugattis for racing work, among his clients being the popular Count Czaykowski, who competed in the 500 Miles Race at Brooklands.

Bugatti Plans.
Bugatti is definitely running a team, composed of Varzi, Williams, Dreyfus and Divo throughout the season. We are informed by no less an authority than M. Ettore Bugatti himself that the cars will be of 2.8 litres engine capacity, but he is unable as yet to divulge any further particulars, although these may be announced any day now.
The entry of two 5-litre unnamed cars for Le Mans by Guy Bouriat is significant. Bouriat is still associated with Bugatti, and it is possible that these cars will be entered for the T.T. as well.
Chiron's 1933 Bugatti.
Frederic Toselli, the Nicois driver, who last year competed in French races at the wheel of a 1½ litre Bugatti, has sold this and is now the proud owner of the double camshaft
2.3 litre Bugatti raced throughout the season by Louis Chiron.
Louis Trintignant.
Another one-time 1½ litre Bugatti owner, Louis Trintignant, has also forsaken this model for a double-camshaft "2.3." Trintignant is regarded by many French sportsmen as one of the most promising Continental drivers.

Bugatti Records at Montlhery.
The Kaye Don - Eldridge - Eyston 4.9 Bugatti has been greatly modified for this season, the engine being set further back in the frame, and Lockheed brakes being substituted for the original system. It was recently decided to attack records at Montlhery, but the day fixed for the attempt on the Class C 1 hour record produced a severe rain-storm, so that Kaye Don, who was to drive the car, was forced to put off the attempt.
Finally, the weather cleared, and the car set off. The hour record was taken successfully at a speed of 123.01 m.p.h., and all being well, the car pushed on and took the 200 miles record at 122.36 m.p.h., G. E. T. Eyston driving for the last part of
the run. Previously the hour record was held by the "Tiger" Sunbeam, also driven by Don, at 120.80 m.p.h., and the 200 miles record at 117.47 by the Delage driven by Don. Needless to say, Dunlop tyres were used.

A WONDERFUL WORLD'S HOUR RECORD
132.87 miles in one hour!
Count Czaikowski in his 4.9 Bugatti being cheered at the end of his record run.
The outstanding record attempt during May was undoubtedly the magnificent world's hour figure made by Count Czaikowski. Driving a 4,900 c.c. Bugatti on the Avus Track, Berlin, Czaikowski covered 132.88 miles in one hour, thus beating G. E. T. Eyston's previous record of 130.87 miles on the Panhard at Montlhéry.
After two days practice the 4.9 Bugatti set out on the morning of May 5th, and was soon lapping the difficult Avus Track at a speed of about 130 m.p.h. Two warming-up laps were made, and then the car set off in earnest. Mme. Czaikowski herself sat in the timing box, two stopwatches before her. We do not know the reason why Count Czaikowski chose the Avus circuit for his attempt, but the fact remains that the corners at each end of the two 12 mile straights necessitate slowing down to about 80 m.p.h. on each lap. By dint of attaining 150 m.p.h. on the straights, Czaikowski maintained his lap speed of 133 m.p.h., and the first record to fall was the 100 kilometres, at a speed of 131.88 m.p.h. This was followed up by the 100 miles at 132.90 m.p.h.; the 200 kilometres at 132.85 m.p.h. and finally the one hour fell at 132.87 m.p.h. Eyston's previous figures on the Panhard were 131.80 m.p.h., 131.76 m.p.h., and 131.14 m.p.h.
During the run Count Czaikowski beat the record for the Avus circuit held by Rene Dreyfus on the 16 cylinder Maserati at 209.405 k.p.h., with a speed of 217.206 k.p.h.
For this wonderful performance Count Czaikowski was suitably feted by the Automobil club von Deutschland. That evening a dinner was held in his honour, presided over by the Duke of Meeklemburg, who presented the French driver with the Club's Gold Medal, a distinction so far only accorded to Rudolf Caracciola and Hans Stuck von Villiez.
The whole attempt is a very fine performance on the part of Count Czaikowski, and no less so of the 4.9 Bugatti and the Dunlop tyres which were stressed very considerably on the corners. Castrol oil was used. These records have since been confirmed.
Motor SportJune 1933
Another Bugatti Record.
The French driver, "Trébuh" brought out his 2,261 c.c. Bugatti for an attempt on the standing kilometre record in Class D (up to 3,000 c.c.).
The car showed terrific power as it got off the mark, leaving black lines on the concrete, and snaking from side to side. When "Trébuh's" time was announced it was found that he had beaten the existing record held by the Englishman, W. Y. Craig (Bugatti), at 80.32 m.p.h. "Trébuh" speed was 80.83 m.p.h. and this has been officially confirmed. Incidentally this pseudonym hid the identity of M. Cohas.
Count Stanislaw Czaikowski.
